va tech shooter

Please forgive me if this picture is too disturbing. This is Cho Seung-Hui, a 23 year old South Korean native, who was the Virginia Tech University shooter, who killed 32 people and himself this past Monday, April 16, 2007. He sent pictures of himself with text and video describing his feelings of being persecuted. He went off on Christians and the affluent. MSNBC was mailed this "manifesto" by Cho on Monday between his two killings (he killed two in a dorm, stopped, mailed this, and then killed 30 more in a classroom). MSNBC is not releasing all of the video, for some of it is too graphic and "distrubing," according to NBC President Steve Capus. Cho used a handle on the USPS Express package he sent: Ax Ishmael. What it means, no one is certain.

va tech shooting

The students at VA Tech got more than a scare today. 33 dead, 29 injured, but the death toll could still go up. Today marks the most deadly shooting in US history. I don't know what to say...Christ, come back soon. Bush's response.

fifty and fourteen

SUNS WIN! The Suns had a hugely difficult match up tonight, against the number one team in the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks (52 - 11). Add to that the fact that they were playing in Dallas, the Suns were about to face their best opponent of the season, for the third time. The Suns had lost both of the previous meetings. It looked like the Suns were going to play their style basketball and out-pace the Mavs, and they did so in the first and second quarters. The Suns couldn't handle the third quarter, which they lost 38 - 16. They were down by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter, but the Suns pushed back. It was 111 - 108, Mavs, with the final seconds ticking off: the ball was in Steve Nash (two-time, will be three-time, MVP of the NBA). Nash shoots a three pointer to tie, but missed. Something that was quite the rarity in this game, the Suns got a rebound, and an offensive rebound at that. Marion rebounded, passed the ball back to Nash immediately, and Nash shot another three. IT'S GOOD! The game goes into overtime with a score of 111 - 111. The Suns come out to own the OT. They were up by 5 points, but the Mavs came back at the last second to tie the game and send it into the 2nd OT. In the 2nd OT, the Suns were able to get some fouls called in their favor (another thing that didn't happen during regulation) and two key Mavs players fouled out: Josh Howard and Erick Diaper, I mean, Dampier. Dampier had dominated the boards (11 rebounds, all offensive) and kept Stat as much at bay as possible, but once he was gone, Stat was able to take over. The Suns won 129 - 127 over the number one Dallas Mavs in double overtime. What a game! Maybe a good iTunes download? Quite possibly. Stat had 41 points and 10 rebounds; Nash had 32 points, 16 assists, and even 8 rebounds; Trix had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Stoudemire and Nash had to have great games, and they did. The Suns pulled out this 2OT win with an incredible comeback by incredible shooting and overall play. The Suns play the Pistons (41 - 22) on Friday in Phoenix at 7pm AZ time. We just beat the number one team in the NBA, and now we get to beat the number one team in the East. Not even a match-up this time. Then the Pistons take on the Mavs after that. The East's got nuthin' on the West. GO SUNS!

yearning

I am back at work today. This past weekend was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed my family. Having to be back here at school today makes my heart sink. My parents, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew are all leaving today, and I can't be there to take them to the airport, give them one last hug before they leave. I didn't get to print out some pictures for my parents. I didn't get to take a picture of my sister's family. I didn't get to burn some CDs for them of all the pictures we took this weekend. There were so many things to wrap up last night, but we didn't get the chance. My brother-in-law, Joseph, had never seen the Grand Canyon, so we made a day trip with the six adults (one sick and pregnant, Amy, my beautiful bride) and two infants (the cousins, Aidan & JD). It was a wonderful morning. It was only a 3 1/2 hour drive to get there. The sky was cloudy, but there was no bad weather. We got to the Rim, took some pictures in the freezing wind, went to a gift shop or two, and just enjoyed taking our time. My mom, Amy, and the babies went back to the rental van because of how cold it was, but we got some more good pics of Beth and Joe.We got to a stop that was near to Flagstaff and we took a few pictures there, as well. Amy and the babies didn't get out of the van, but the rest of us did. We went back into Flagstaff, ate a great late lunch (maybe a linner? dunch?) at Red Lobster, and headed down the hill at 4pm. We got gas first. There were blizzard conditions just south of Flag on the 17. There were something like 7 different accidents. It took us 4 hours to move 8 miles. The babies didn't enjoy it, but the incredible Van Liew women got them settled and asleep soon enough. Joe and I got out of the car and met a few other guys who were stuck, as well. Doug is an Icee repair man, moving to Colorado Springs soon. Jesse lives in Colorado Springs and was simply headed South. We didn't have a ton of time to talk with them, because we moved a mile down the road and got split up. We threw snow and enjoyed the weather as we could. Munds Park is not bad, I guess, but I normally don't get the opportunity to walk half a mile down the 17 to the Exxon and back again without the vehicle moving down the road even an inch. Okay: 8 miles, 4 hours. I believe that's 2 miles per hour. After we got down the hill further, we finished the remaining 108 miles in an hour and a half. We didn't reach my front door until midnight thirty (for those who don't know Adam-speak, that's 12:30am the next morning). So, all that being said, I was unable to finish the projects that I had for my family. I miss them already. Not only this, but Amy is still sick, needs rest, and she has Aidan to take care of. Just coming to work today makes me feel as if I'm shirking responsibilities all over. I love my family.

crash

We went to Militza Arena's quiceƱera tonight, but beforehand we saw a crazy thing. Quite the mind-boggling sight. I couldn't believe that I'd really just seen it. Across the street, there was a dodge truck driving wrecklessly in a parking lot. I couldn't tell why he was driving that way, but he swerved right, then left, then right into a thirty-foot palm tree, which bent with the blow. It bent the bumper around the tree, and even after they backed the car away a bit, the bumper stayed with the tree. The front of the truck was smashed back a few feet into the engine. Two firetrucks, an ambulence, and a police car showed up about 5-10 minutes after the accident. Amy saw one of the people from the truck get placed on a stretcher. Hope they're alright.
